Downtown Dialogue - What's Up Downtown

Historic Preservation Building

This month in conjunction with the Historic Preservation Commission, we are featuring:

816 McKinley Ave.
Adkins House

The Adkins House was originally constructed by John and Maggie Thompson in 1910 as a carriage house located at 301 Spruce Street. The Greek Revival house was moved to 816 McKinley Avenue in 1939 where Frank Adkins, a miner, and his wife Lizzie lived until 1989. The house has retained many elements of its original form.

Farewell to The Book Cellar
The DBA would like to extend a fond farewell to The Book Cellar. Owner, Barbara Butterworth retired and we wish her and her staff the best of luck in all their new endeavors. The good news is that Barb was able to sell the business to a couple of local ladies who will reopen the shop soon in a new location, most likely in Lafayette. The shop and the wonderful staff will be missed downtown, but we are happy that The Book Cellar will continue. Cheers!

Warm Welcome to RE/MAX Elevate
We Heart Louisville is the sentiment of RE/MAX Elevate that will open its office on May 1st at 724 Main Street. Owner Jay Kalinski says “We’re thrilled to introduce RE/MAX Elevate to Louisville, where many of our founding agents ‒ and their families ‒ live, work, and go to school, and where our clients are selling or searching for homes. We are rooted in the community. We are committed to the city of Louisville, and as a small local veteran-owned business, we are excited to be actively involved in the local entrepreneurial community and with nonprofits and community organizations, and to support the vitality and well-being of the city.”

The office is also rooted in a longstanding legacy of real estate success. RE/MAX Elevate is the sister franchise of RE/MAX of Boulder, the 40-plus year old leader in Boulder Valley real estate. RE/MAX Elevate is a proud member of the Louisville Downtown Business Association and the Louisville Chamber of Commerce. Contact: (303) 974-5005 or
