TIDBITS

Historic Preservation Building

This month in conjunction with the Historic Preservation Commission, we are featuring:

501 South St.
Zarini-Ross House

Built in 1905 by developers of the Capital Hill Addition in Louisville, this wood and brick house was owned by two Italian families for over 90 years. Charles and Christine Zarini lived there until 1921, and then sold it to Joe and Rose Ross (Americanized from Larussi). Joe served in Siberia during World War I and worked as a coal miner in Louisville.

Farewell from the Cohens
As many already know, after 12 years the Cohen family is stepping down from operating downtown’s beloved The Empire Restaurant. New operations manager, Jeff Osaka, will be taking the reins and continue The Empire legacy. Beginning after Memorial Day The Empire will be temporarily closed for some needed maintenance and updates, but don’t fear, The Empire will be back up and running in July! Thank you to the Cohen Family for bringing such a wonderful gathering place downtown and we wish them well on their journey. As Lexi Cohen says, it’s not good-bye, “it’s more of a see you later.” Read their farewell letter here.
