The Louisville Public Library is holding a Mural Contest for young artists in Boulder County. The Library backs up to Via Artista and the parking ramp wall will be the canvas for an installation based on the theme “A UNIVERSE OF STORIES.” The Library is seeking an original design that speaks to the universality of stories and the importance of the story in human evolution, asking the questions, How do stories connect us to each other? How do they connect us to our past, to our future and to worlds that live only in the author’s imagination?
This contest is intended to provide a space for aspiring young artists to share their talents and to add to the public art in beautiful downtown Louisville. Entries will be accepted until Sunday, June 9. Entrants may be one individual or a group with a designated lead artist. Must be ages 16-21 and residents of Boulder County to enter. Anne Spacone is a self-taught iconographer who has been creating non-traditional icons of the Saints for the past 12 years. On Sunday June 2nd from 2:00 – 6:00 pm at the Louisville Center for the Arts, she will be sharing over 50 pieces, including icons, puzzles of icons and more. This is an opportunity to experience an ancient art form that is contemplative and meditative. Iconography is used as a window or doorway to a spiritual encounter in the material world.
